As we get closer and closer to the holiday season, that means one thing: high school soccer is on the horizon here in Northeast Florida.
To celebrate the sport and its countless hard-working athletes and coaches, JAXUSL will be hosting a media day on Thursday, November 2. The event will be the first of its kind and is taking place at the Winston Family YMCA in Riverside.
Soccer has a rich history in the area, especially at the high school level. Due to its season falling at the time it does, it can fall through the cracks of the more-publicized fall and spring seasons. Because of this, we want to highlight their craft as they look forward to this year’s campaign.
“When we found out that there has never been an organized media day for high school soccer on the First Coast we were shocked and obviously wanted to do whatever we could to support the establishment of one,” JAXUSL CEO and President Steve Livingstone said.
Alongside JAXUSL, Island Wing Company is a presenting partner and will cater those that are being highlighted. IWC has locations throughout the East Coast, two of which are in the Jacksonville area. Swing by at their Bartram Market or Southside Boulevard shops for an extensive menu, which includes delicious baked wings.
JAXUSL Chief Marketing Officer and founding partner Tony Allegretti looks back fondly both on his days playing and coaching high school soccer. This adds to his excitement for the upcoming event.
“Some of the best memories I’ve had growing up playing soccer were formed in high school competition,” Allegretti said. “A lot of the fun is that you’re playing with kids from rival clubs and different parts of town, so it makes for incredible memories.”
Coaches and players from roughly 30 local teams will be in attendance, so there’s a chance that either you or your child’s home school will be represented. Supporting them doesn’t have to end with this celebration, though. Make sure to swing by some matches this season as they showcase their talent on the pitch.
We’ll have plenty of content from the event, so stay tuned to our website and social media accounts to keep up with all the action! Being that it is media day, local outlets will be on scene. You can check out Jacksonville news throughout the day to see their coverage.
It takes a village, even with a High School Soccer Media Day. JAXUSL is thrilled to be able to put on this event and is thankful for those making it possible.
“We’re extremely grateful to our partners First Coast YMCA, Island Wing Company and all of the high school athletics administrations, teams, players and local media taking part for their support in allowing us to help shine the spotlight on our extremely talented high school soccer players from across the region and providing this platform to engage with our local media on their behalf,” Livingstone said.
This is just one of the many exciting things JAXUSL has on the docket, and we can’t wait to share with you all.
